Withme app

Withme app

Project overview

The idea for the app came from the client's lonely business trips. As someone who travels a lot, the client often found himself wishing he could meet up with fellow travelers and exchange experiences with them. But approaching random people for a chat is rather difficult. Hence the need for an app where like-minded individuals can find people with similar interests and meet up for a meal.

The client intended to use this as a proof of concept for investors and had a very short timeline, so I was asked to skip most of the usual design process.

User flow

The app needed to solve three main problems for users: finding other travelers, getting in touch with them and booking a restaurant for a meal. It also included other features, such as setting an arrival time and booking hotels in advance.

To start off the project, I made a simple user flow to show how each step would occur throughout the journey. This also gave the technical team a clear picture of how to structure the backend.

Wireframing

Using the flow, I started creating the wireframes. Since the concept was relatively new, I drew inspiration from popular apps with similar functionality, such as Uber and Airbnb.

We went through multiple rounds of wireframing while discussing the feasibility of development within the short time span.

Design

Once the wireframes were finalized, I created a moodboard to showcase some possible styles for the app. The main target audience was business travelers on short stays, so I leaned toward an aesthetic that is slightly formal but vibrant, to brighten a long day after work.

Another consideration was to keep both the design and the features minimal and make the UI familiar and intuitive, so we went with well-tried and tested patterns to ensure users spend as little time as possible learning the interface.
